Chapter 10

Grounded in Reality

Jackson

We picked up Liv in Turks and Caicos, but I haven’t really seen much of her or had a full-on conversation since our departure.

We are flying to the small Island of Bimini in the Bahamas. Amber is back in her seat and fast asleep, a blanket draped over her. I turn and admire her, wondering what it would feel like waking up next to her and making passionate love to her.

At the same time, I am plagued with the guilt that I kissed her—and did many other things—without telling her the truth. She deserves the truth.

She deserves to know about my ex and my relationship with her father.

“Hey lover boy,” Olivia’s voice cuts right through my reverie.

I turn to face her. “Liv. There you are.”

She looks put together as usual, but like me, she has developed a tan from all the days we have been spending in the sun.

“Don’t Liv me. What happened?”

Feigning innocence, I ask her. “What do you mean?”

“I mean,” she lowers her voice, “Between you and little miss influencer over there.” She gestures at the sleeping form behind us.

“Don’t call her that.”

“Okay,” she raises her hands in surrender. “I didn’t mean to offend you. I was just curious.”

“Nothing happened, Liv.”

“Are you sure about that, grumpy?” She smirks at me.

“Damn it. Did she say something?”

“Nope!” She pops the word. “But you just did. Now, spill it. I can tell that something happened between you two, or at least something is about to happen.”

I groaned under her scrutiny. “Nothing happened.”

“Liar!”

“Fine. Something happened but I am sure as hell not telling you about it.”

“I knew it!” she shrieks.

“You knew nothing. Now, can you keep it down before you wake her?”

“Yes, grumpy.” Then she ruffles my hair before walking away.

The rest of the flight is quiet, and I realize how much I miss the chipper energy that is all Amber. By the time I land in the small airport of south Bimini, I am about ready to walk back there and wake her up myself.

I am running an engine check a few minutes after landing when she finally wakes up, trotting to the cockpit still wrapped up in her blanket.

“Hey, sleepy head.”

“Hey, Top Gun. How long was I out?”

“About one hour.”

She yawns loudly, stretching her arms. “I didn’t sleep much the last few nights,” she grins mischievously at me.

God, she is so fucking adorable.

“Oh, really?”

“Yep. I got thirsty the other night and went to get water, but that took longer than I was expecting.”

“Are you complaining, Miss Scott?”

“Not at all.”

With a quick glance around to make sure that Liv is nowhere in sight, she leans down and presses her soft lips on mine.

“Amber,” I whisper against her lips.

“Yes, Mr. Pilot.”

“I—“ But I don’t get to finish my statement because we hear a creak and quickly jump apart.

Amber giggles as she walks back, dragging her blanket behind her, and I concentrate on checking on my screens and adjusting the erection that is straining against my dress pants.

As we step
